iBuben

iBuben is a mobile application for learning Armenian language and culture.

It contains the best practices and new solutions that will help effectively master Armenian language and immerse in Armenian culture.

The application has become popular on the AppStore, has entered the tops and has a high rating of 4.8.

THE PROBLEM

There are many Armenians (and not only) who cannot read, write and speak their native language, do not know the history and culture of their country, but want to learn and fill in the gaps.

The problem was solved by creating this application, which combines the best practices adapted for the Armenian language. It is not completed yet and is constantly being developed, but it already has:

• More than 10,000 downloads from different countries
• The number of active users for the month exceeded 2000
• More than 300 people have positively rated iBuben on the AppStore (the rating is 4.8)

Two big requests were identified:

1) Creating an Android version

2) Creating an English version

SOLUTION

Creating an Android version will close a large request from the audience. An MVP with reduced functionality is enough to get a start. Then gradually develop and catch up with the iOS version by adding functionality.

WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE

iBuben consists of the following modules:

• "Alphabet" is a section for learning letters through associations and letter replacement algorithm
• "History" is a section which helps to immerse in the culture with built–in animation by Cilicia Animation. There is also the letter replacement algorithm
• "Training course" is a section for learning words and enriching vocabulary through the card method followed by passing the exam. Also, it is possible to create your personal course with your own cards
• "Words" is a section for repeating the learnt words. There is an algorithm to check how well you memorized the words
• "Quiz" is a game where you need to guess the word. It also has the letter replacement algorithm
• "Recipes" is a section of Armenian recipes (section is in development)
• "Music" is a section for learning Armenian dance (section is in development)
• "Useful" is a section which includes built–in transcriber, useful chats and various resources
• "Map" is a section with interesting places in Armenia (the section was implemented, but temporarily hidden until redesign)

WHAT THE FUNDS WILL BE USED FOR

The app is free, so I've been spending my own money all this time. Recently, I added a paid subscription. At the same time, all the functionality is still available for free, but now it has time limits. The project is socially commercial and the goal is not to make a profit from it. I believe it is possible to achieve self-financing, but the project will be developed most probably on enthusiasm in the near future, as it has been for the whole year since its creation. The fundraising is organized to create an Android version of this product. As part of the organized fundraising, we will create an MVP for Android. At first, the Alphabet module will be implemented and maybe other modules too if the funds will be enough.
