Officer Harut Davtyan, 27, was seriously wounded during the Forty-Four-Day war in Artsakh. After several surgeries, Harut has started walking again.

He needs to have his own occupation and source of income at home.

Harut and his family

Harut is a captain, the commander of a platoon. He graduated with honors from the RA Ministry of Defense Military University after V. Sargsyan. After graduation he started serving in Jrakan. After his serious injury, he has gone through a long recovery phase and, as a result of his condition, he can no longer serve in the military. Now he is willing to have his own source of income in his house. Harut lives in Kornidzor village in Syunik region, with his big family including his parents, brother, grandmother, wife and seven-month-old daughter.

The heroic Kornidzor and hardworking father

Kornidzor became a border village after the war in 2020. Enemy positions are located several hundred meters away from the village. The people of Kornidzor are used to fighting with weapons. During the first Artsakh war, the village was severely damaged.

During that same war Harut's father, Hambardzum, was wounded and it is for decades that he has been suffering from third-degree disability. He cannot do hard work, but he works tirelessly. He is engaged in cattle breeding and farming. Hambardzum never complains about working, he says it should be like that, because the burden of the family is on his shoulders, especially now when his son can never work in his field.

Why a greenhouse?

Harut's family has a great desire to build a greenhouse in the yard of their own house - a tunnel greenhouse with a two-layer polyethylene cover in an area of up to 200 square meters. It will be used for growing different types of crops. Kornidzor greens, tomatoes, cucumbers and beans are considered to have a unique taste and they are to some extent considered as a "brand" in Goris region, so they are in great demand. The greenhouse will allow growing the mentioned crops in all seasons of the year.

What result do we expect?

The greenhouse project is relevant in the border areas of Syunik region, because after the 2020 war, the inhabitants of those areas have lost most of their agricultural land. The greenhouse to be built by Harut family will be further expanded to include other members of the community as employees or partners. Moreover, this greenhouse will be an innovative agricultural solution, which will serve as an example for others and will be extended to other border areas.

Who are we?

"To the Community" NGO was founded in 2019 by a group of volunteers. Its focus is community development. The vision of the organization is to contribute to the realistic development of communities by creating conditions for identifying and maximizing their potential. The organization now has 31 volunteer members. We learned about Harut family during a visit to Kornidzor Village. Upon noticing their sincere willingness to work and the importance of building a greenhouse for Harout, “To the Community” members decided to initiate this project.
