Wonderful news from Slovenia!

Just moments ago, it was announced that the winner of the World Robot Olympiad Open Championship is Team Armenia!

Our country was represented by young engineers from the Armath Engineering Makerspaces of Aygut village and Yerevan School No. 131."

That’s how everyone found out we had won — and now, our next destination is Singapore, where we’ll compete in the World Robot Olympiad final stage.

🚨 Autonomous Robot for Detecting Gas Leaks in Gas Pipes

Relevance and Innovation:

In today’s world, detecting gas leaks in pipelines is crucial for safety, environmental protection, and economic stability. Our goal is to develop technology that simplifies the monitoring process while reducing risks and human involvement.

Gas leaks often occur in homes, industrial sites, and public buildings. Traditional methods such as manual inspections, infrared cameras, or permanent sensor networks require significant time and resources.

Our project stands out for combining robotics and sensor systems to enable fast and efficient detection of hazardous situations.

⚙️ Technical Overview

The robot moves using 3 motors that control direction and stability.

Gas sensors are installed in both central and lateral sections for maximum coverage.

The body is designed to move easily along pipelines.

When a gas leak is detected, the robot:

• Stops immediately,
• Activates a sound alarm,
• Sends a real-time GPS alert to the operator.

This allows for rapid response and precise localization of accidents.

🎯 Purpose and Problem-Solving

Gas leaks in residential, industrial, and municipal pipelines pose a serious threat to human life and safety.

In densely populated areas, delayed detection can lead to:

• Explosions (such as those in Massachusetts, USA, in 2018),
• Fire hazards,
• Carbon monoxide poisoning,
• Environmental and property damage.

Our autonomous mobile robot system is designed to identify gas leaks — even in hard-to-reach areas — ensuring reliable pipeline monitoring and faster response to emergencies.

Technical:

• Provides continuous and precise pipeline monitoring,
• Compact, mobile, and easy to deploy,
• Reduces maintenance and repair costs, since prevention is cheaper than recovery.

Social:

• Increases public safety,
• Prevents health and environmental issues,
• Builds trust in modern engineering solutions.

🔋 Future Development

We plan to enhance the robot by:

• Adding solar panels for continuous, independent power,
• Improving motor durability,
• Increasing sensor reliability,
• Applying water-resistant coating for field durability.
