In rural Armenia, access to healthcare is limited, leaving many without essential medical care. Santé Arménie is addressing this gap by deploying mobile units to bring free medical consultations directly to remote villages. Your support can help continue providing care to those in need.
IMPACT
These mobile units provide vital medical care to underserved populations, improving the health and well-being of individuals who would otherwise have no access to professional healthcare. The expansion of these units has already shown impressive outcomes, providing medical support to hundreds of people in remote regions in Syunik.
PROBLEM
In rural Armenia, access to healthcare is very limited. Some people in need of care have not had a medical consultation for years.
This is due to two main factors:
● Health infrastructures outside the capital, and even more so in remote villages, lack human resources and quality equipment.
● Villagers' limited financial resources prevent them from traveling to receive consultations.
This exclusion of villages far from the capital from the healthcare system further deepens existing social inequalities.
SOLUTION
Creation of a Mobile Team of General Medicine, composed of doctors and nurses, in collaboration with existing local medical and humanitarian structures. The aim of this team would be to go as close as possible to the population to provide basic care, but also to identify and screen the chronically ill, to follow them up or accompany them towards the appropriate medical channels, to ensure the follow-up of children or their transfer to pediatric centers, and to ensure the medical follow-up of bedridden patients (war wounded, elderly, physically or mentally handicapped people) The medical team will be composed of experienced doctor and nurse, trained, equipped and accompanied by Santé Arménie's General Practitioners.
Well aware of the inequality of access to healthcare, Santé Arménie deduced that it was vital to deploy mobile units able to visit villages in order to offer free primary care consultations to the population, and to ensure both follow-up and referral, in coordination with regional hospital structures.
As Santé Arménie concentrates the majority of its activities in the Syunik region, it was here that the first mobile general medicine unit was inaugurated. Since 2021, Santé Arménie's first mobile unit has been visiting nine villages around the city of Goris:
The unit is staffed by a general practitioner, with a car equipped with medical equipment such as an ultrasound scanner, a mini medical analysis laboratory and an electrocardiograph, all of which enable the doctor to carry out advanced examinations of patients.
The unit's doctor works in close collaboration with nurses in the villages that are visited. The nurses organize consultations and support the doctor and this enables a better local anchoring strengthening the continuity of care and promoting acceptance of the medical unit by the local population.
TEAM
The team behind this initiative is made up of dedicated volunteer medical professionals and locally employed physicians, working tirelessly to provide healthcare in underserved villages. The unit’s doctor works in close collaboration with nurses in the villages that are visited. These nurses organize consultations and support the doctor, enabling a stronger local presence that enhances continuity of care and promotes acceptance of the medical unit by the local population. This collaborative approach strengthens the impact of the initiative, ensuring that healthcare delivery is both sustainable and well-integrated within the community.
