DESCRIPTION

"Grqaser" has been recording Armenian audiobooks for 9 years, which are being listened to by Armenians from all over the world, for example during the year 2023 we have had 173,000 users. But unfortunately the website is not very suitable for people with visual impairments, who are part of our key audience.

PROBLEM

Over the last 9 years, the non-governmental organization "Grqaser club" audio library has recorded and presented to listeners free of charge more than 1000 audio books and 300 fairy tales in Armenian language, which are being listened to by Armenians from all over the world.

A special place among our users is occupied by people with visual impairment, who often contact us with technical problems that we do not notice. They encounter technical complications while listening to a book. We have been trying to provide temporary solutions to the problems for years, but we finally decided to fundamentally change the web site, adapting it to people with visual impairments, as well as adding certain functionality for all users.

SOLUTION

Our goal for this project is to build a super user experience which will be adapted by people with vision impairment. In other words, the idea of redesign is not to create a new beautiful website, but in order the content to be perceived as easy as possible.

The UX designer who offered to dedicate her services to Grqaser is designing a new website structure that will be fully adapted to use by people with visual impairments. Also, after the end of the project, blind testing will be performed.

Grqaser is recording Armenian audiobooks and publishing them all completely free for any user. So by supporting, you help not us but the people who are listening to those books.

IMPACT

As a result of the new website, we plan to completely change the way audiobooks are being introduced, by adding new functionality and adapting the design to the needs of visually impaired people. We are sure that many people will replace listening to music with listening to an audiobook every day, which will certainly have a positive effect.

Making the site convenient for use, we also plan to organize meetings with school students, offering to listen to educational literature through Grqaser, which will stimulate the assimilation of fiction more.

As a result, we expect to at least triple the number of our users, which will have a positive effect not on our organization, but on increasing literacy in Armenia.

To implement this project, the main work will be done by the IT specialist, for whose funding we have organized this fundraiser, and the website designer, who will help with UX research and design, and also perform "blind testing", will donate his work to the Grqaser NGO.
