We are organizing the annual Vardavar celebration in the border village of Kornidzor in the Syunik region on 23-24 July 2022.

We are needed on the border.

After the 44-Day War of 2020, a number of communities in the Syunik region suddenly bordered Azerbaijan, causing a negative psychological and socioeconomic impact on the residents. The wave of despair can lead to high levels of emigration from these communities if structured and strategic steps are not taken.

Despite the fact that the village of Kornidzor is bordered on three sides, we succeeded in organizing an incredible celebration of Vardavar there in 2021. For two days and two nights, the border village was filled with joy, national songs and dances, and united strength.

Celebrating together, we can change the spirit on the border.

Celebration of Vardavar is not only about pouring water on each other.

Vardavar is one of the happiest of the traditional Armenian holidays. These days, it is mostly associated with the game of pouring water on each other, but in ancient times, the holiday of Vardavar was celebrated with traditional ethnic ceremonies and rituals. We decided to start the awakening of such celebrations in the border villages.

From Cultural Awakening to Economical Solutions

The celebration of Vardavar offers solutions in several directions.

• Improving the morale and psychological atmosphere in the border communities and encouraging the residents. Moreover, this affects not only the residents of Kornidzor but also people living in all neighboring areas, as the event is covered by both the media and various social platforms.

• Mass ethnocultural events in border areas increase patriotism. Moreover, the stereotype that it is dangerous to visit the border is broken among the visitors.

• The event has educational components for preserving national and cultural values and developing aesthetic taste. The cultural part of the event will be provided exclusively by professional artists, ethnographers, and musicians.

• During the two-day event, the village residents will earn additional income as a result of providing various services to the guests. According to our forecasts, taking into account the statistics of the event organized in 2021, the Kornidzor village residents may generate income exceeding the event costs by providing services accommodation, food, and sale of agricultural products.

• The event creates a great network between the guests and the villagers, which can later become a basis for further cooperation.

National Dances, Concert, Curfew, Water Games…

The 23-24 July event agenda includes։ a concert, dances, a pilgrimage tour, walking tour around the village, curfew night before the celebration, a tightrope walker, traditional games related to Vardavar, a flower garlands workshop, bread-baking workshops, and the selling of agricultural products made in Kornidzor․

We are Volunteers

"To the Community" Community Development NGO was established in 2019 by a group of volunteers. The goal of the organization is to promote the realistic and feasible development of communities by creating conditions for revealing the potential of communities and maximizing their development.

In 2021, To the Community, in cooperation with the Kean Educational and Cultural Center NGO, organized the traditional celebration of Vardavar in Kornidzor. According to various experts, it was considered a successful celebration with approximately 1500 attendants. The village and the surrounding settlements are looking forward to this year's event.
