Old laboratory facilities, infrastructure, and equipment at the Institute restrict researchers, especially young scientists to implement advanced studies and publishing papers in peer-reviewed international scientific journals.

Solution

Join us to establish a state-of-the-art molecular laboratory at the A. Takhtajyan Institute of Botany National Academy of Sciences of Armenia to study plants, fungi, mosses, and lichens.

Why it’s important?

• Enable Armenian researchers to identify, name, and describe new species of plants, mosses, lichens, and fungi, to carry out phylogenetic, taxonomic, and ecological research on biological communities;
• Support biodiversity conservation efforts through scientific discovery and DNA barcoding; 
• Allow young researchers and students of the Institute of Botany and Department of Botany and Mycology of the Yerevan State University to engage young people and implement cutting-edge research; 
• Promote international cooperation and cooperation with our Diaspora scientists (e.g. as International Congress of Armenian Mycologists).

This equipment extracts and amplifies DNA from environmental samples collected from Armenia’s many unique ecosystems.

Your donation renovates the lab and provides modern equipment to facilitate efficient, safe, and accurate research in Armenia. The Institute of Botany has already received support from the Science Committee of Armenia for purchasing equipment of 40000 USD, 4000 USD through a fundraiser organized by our colleagues – the International Congress of Armenian Mycologists, and also 5000 USD are expected from the National Academy of Sciences of the RA. To complete our lab facility, we need 13815 USD. With your kind assistance, we are going to purchase the required equipment such as a dry-block thermostat, microtube homogenizer, micro spin/vortex, water distiller, as well as lab furniture, fridge, and air conditioning system.

Takhtajyan Institute of Botany NAS RA State was founded in 1938, together with the Yerevan Botanical Garden (founded in 1935, currently a division of the Institute), is the only scientific-research institution in Armenia that purposefully implements the studies of plant diversity and conservation, physiology, taxonomy, phylogeny, paleobotany, geobotany, etc.
