With science we can secure and develop our country, improve quality of life.

After years of stagnation resulting from lack of funding post the Soviet Union collapse, Yerevan Physics Institute - a formerly world famous institution - needs to rebuild itself as A.Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory (AANL) and reclaim a spot in the international scientific community.

We can do it, because we still have our extraordinary champion scientists who despite very difficult conditions stayed active in research, salvaged and passed on expertise. Now is the time to act and help Armenian physicists succeed.

Advanced Center for Detection Technologies (ACDT) as a global hub for next generation detectors and sensors in nuclear physics!

With support from PIERIS Fund (Facebook-PIERIS Fund) ACDT was established at A. Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory (AANL)

This center aims to rally local and international stakeholders and top talent in the field, expose students to modern research creating a unique learning opportunity and cultivate interest in science and education.

Our team represents Armenia amongst 13 countries in landmark collaborative research initiative!

Building up the story of its success, ACDT entered a collaboration with the international initiative of Electron Ion Collider with Brookhaven National Laboratory and Jefferson Labs

Collaboration engages 94 institutions from 13 countries. Armenia is represented by our 14 members strong team (including students) from our ACDT Laboratory!

Help our scientists stay successful!

Key deliverable for our lab is to build a prototype calorimeter. Think of it as “building an eye to peek into nuclear reactions”. The “eye” will be used for measurement of Radiation Hardness, Gain Monitoring, UV Curing and many other things.

For this we need to acquire 20 crystals! Not diamonds or sapphires, but ones that are a lot more precious to physicists - (PbWO4) led tungsten crystals / scintillators.

We need at least 20 of them and they cost 2,150 USD each.

💲PIERIS Fund will match every $1 raised💲

Why do we need the Collider?

Electron-Ion Collider will be a discovery machine for unlocking the secrets of the "glue" that binds the building blocks of visible matter in the universe. EIC will enable research that will help advance knowledge in nuclear physics and fields of science that are crucial to future technological, economic, and national security. It will also stimulate strong international collaboration, attracting the “best and brightest” to work on this frontier project and its associated technologies.

The prototype calorimeter will be utilized extensively for years to come and for numerous purposes:

  • R&D for EIC collaboration,
  • crystal behavior calibration, radiation hardness, light yield, gain monitoring,
  • teaching students, diploma/thesis work, and supporting other experiments and research.
