The city park with an area of ​​12,600 square meters is the only park in Stepanavan, Lori region and is situated in the city center visited both by locals and by visitors. The Park has 4 electronic carousels installed in the 1970s that are technically defective and not widely used. Tree pruning and rejuvenation works are being carried out in the park by the municipality, but all the central and adjacent passages of the park are in disrepair, dilapidated, sloping, with curved curbs, flowerbeds are damaged, carousel fences are rusty. The Park needs extensive renovation.

 Due to its current poor condition, the park is not able to meet the leisure needs of locals, especially children. There is no children's park in the city except this one. So, kids are deprived of a place where they can play and enjoy children's attractions. Besides, the park's neglected appearance largely affects the design and image of the city. Stepanavan started implementing talent and business attraction agenda and having a beautiful, clean, green park of entertainment inside the city where visitors can sit and enjoy the city's mild climate, is a must on the way of city development. Therefore, the goal of the initiative is to increase the attractiveness of Stepanavan, among others, through the improvement and modernization of the city park.

Support needed:

There is a need for extensive renovation of the park, including

-Acquisition and installation of new carousels and other attractions, including sport facilities promoting healthy lifestyles for all kids

-Renovation of night decorative luminaires, care of trees, landscaping of lawns, restoration of vegetation, construction of metal fences etc. Making the park accessible for everyone, including people with special needs.

-The municipality has half of the financial resources needed for the renovation and is looking for co-financer (50-60k USD) for launching the process.

- Expertise in architecture & design of urban spaces is also needed

Initiative is proposed by the Municipality of Stepanavan, Republic of Armenia. The Municipality has started actively working towards the transformation of the city of Stepanavan from a “place to rest” to a green “place to live”. In cooperation with international partners several projects are in process of implementation in areas of city branding, life-long learning & remote work promotion, talent & business attraction, re-activation of civil aviation cluster; alternative energy promotion etc.

The renovation of the park is one of the initiatives on the way.
